If your 17 year old son calls you at 2 a.m. and wants you to pick him up from a party because he doesn't have enough money for a taxi... would you pick him up or be angry and let him find his own way home?

Thanks everyone has restored my faith in humanity. You are good parents!!! My son knows he can call...I pick up my son anywhere anytime and we laugh and discuss his evening on the way home, he is a good kid. My kids are my life... It is the kids that pile in the car with him that say that their parents would never pick them up and would by angry to be awakened in the mid.of the night that worry me...but I will always pick them up too because my sons friends are great kids. Keep up the good work, parents everywhere...

I would pick him up. Better me to drive him home than some drunk kid.

Pick him up, or tell him to take a taxi & you'll pay for it when it arrives, immediately. At least he's using some common sense, which you should be grateful for.Think of all the things that can happen to 17 year olds, especially if they try to hitch-hike at 2 a.m.
Don't be angry, but insist that he be more organised & pay back the taxi fare.

I would tell my son to call a cab (or I would call one for him) and pay for the cab once it arrived. Oh, but I will guarantee that the next day he would be grounded (no TV, no video games, no phone, no computer, no going out, coming straight home after school, chores, etc.) for 3 weeks and be required to pay me back for the cab ride. Not picking him up would potentially expose him to more danger, so helping him get home (via cab or me picking him up) is a no-brainer. At least he called you for help. That says something. You must have a great relationship with your son.

!. Kid calls a cab.
2. You stand out on the porch and wait for him, preferably in your bathrobe.
3. The cab arrives; you pay the driver. Kid slinks into house.

The End.

Daddy says....I'd be angry and pick him up! I say that really depends on where we r in our relationship and what we have talked about. How comfortable we r in our relationship with each other and hell ya I'd probably scream at him all the way home!!!

Honestly, I didn't read the rest of your answers because this struck such a chord in me! Go get your child, and tell him/her you are proud they called you. If you want to preach...save it for tomorrow...your kid didn't try and drive home drunk so you didn't know "what's up" be proud that your child feels they can call on you!

Id rather pick him up from a party as opposed to a police station or morgue.

I would pick him up and I would not punish him if he called because he was intoxicated and chose not to drive or ride with someone who was intoxicated. But I would monitor him carefully after that.

pick him up. At least he was responsible enough to call you. That is the least I would ask of my son.
