Very Low budget: Intel (the Celeron prices are at rock bottom!)
Low budget/mid range : AMD athlon64 Sempron/ 3000+ to 3800+ on socket939 (nothing beats these in value)
High budget: AMD athlon64 4000+ on AM2 socket or go for an X2 or Athlon64 FX-55
Very High budget: Intel Conroes?

Both are fine processes. You have to beside what you want to do with the computer. AMD has the 64 bit chip system in some of its processors so if you want to do a lot of graphics or movies then that may be what you need. Both companies are using double processors in many of the new machines and are both good. I am using tow Pentium 4 3.2gh processors and find they are just great. I am sure AMD is quite comparable. Intel seems to be the most popular at this time.

i ought to characterize a cpu which will properly be surely overclocked and probably able to liberate more suitable cores, and keep funds. For that i propose the amd 960t at about $one hundred twenty 5 and with the cooler carry close hyper 212 ($25) you could bypass from inventory clock @ 3.0 ghz to 4.0 Ghz surely and liberate it to 6 cores, With the more suitable $50 you would possibly want to purchase a extra perfect video card or extra ram. I easily have it and that is a maximum bang on your greenback variety of cpu.

All depend what you wanted it for...."Intel is the best" because most software programs were originally design toward that processor.
But the AMD processor has a following with the video-idiot crowd because of it's more open architecture that allows code to be processed faster which allowed for more mistakes though but that has turned around much to be not an issue.

The short version: Right now, I would suggest buying AMD. However, at the end of July, 2006, when the Conroe core is released (marketed by the named Core 2 Duo), I would suggest buying Intel.

i believe amd's technology has surpassed intel's as early this year in my country amd advertised on the papers a challenge to intel on their processors. amd was waiting at a convention centre for intel to turn up but in the end intel did not.
seems incredible rite ! but its true !! really happened.
i switched from intel to AMD and i can tell u that amd is definitely not inferior to intel and there is no overheating issues anymore as my com is on 24/7 . many years ago there was overheating issues about amd chips.. not anymore !

I would go AMD. While Intel processors offer more processing power, AMD cpus are more efficient with their power, use less energy and run cooler.
