I had this dream throughout my childhood and every now and then as an adult. In the dream(nightmare), the sky & landscape is dark and grey, and totally silent. The giant boulder would just appear about ten feet from the ground and drop with a dull thud that for some reason horrified me. The next boulder would materialize in the air, drop, and cause the previous boulder to dissapear right before the two hit. The new boulder would then noiselessly hit the ground with the same horrible thud, that I could feel more than I could hear. This would repeat over and over. I would wake up as if I had had the most terrible nightmare, but never could understand what oppressed me so much about this dream. If anybody out there is into dreams/nightmares, help me out. What could it mean and why would something so absurd be so terrifying?

I'm not into reading dreams or anything, but it seems that your subconscious mind is telling you that you're overreacting to something.
The boulder represents something "HEAVY", or BIG, or IMPORTANT in your life.
You see a giant boulder dropping and you're expecting it to make a huge sound when it drops, but it doesn't. You feel it more than you hear it, which means your FEELINGS about that "certain something" happening are stronger than what really does happen. You wake up afraid because something happening in your life at the time is not at all what you expect it to be.
Since you've had this dream throughout your childhood and now even as an adult, I think it means that whatever BIG or IMPORTANT event is happening to you at that time (like starting high school, or a new job) makes you have this dream. You aren't quite sure what to expect from this new event and it frightens you a little.
Next time you dream it, think of what big deal you have in your life at that time. That's probably what's causing your brain to make u dream this.
Hope this helps. Just my opinion, though.
Good luck, buddy and don't worry so much. : )

Let me analyze the dream
Sky and Landscape is dark and grey, total silent =This is probably how you foresees the environment and people around you. You may not be as happy as you want.
Boulder with dull thud = All the troubles, problems come one after another one.
This is a tough dream to analyze, but let me try.
In you life, you will be / have been through troubles or difficulties stage after stage. They disappeared (materialize in the air) as you wish for; however they keep coming down. It may show some anxiety of your part than you are able to manage all of them. Therefore, you keep saying them one after another one.
Basically, I think dream is about anxiety of some sort. I do not know your background and family history. This is so much I can get from the dream. Hope it helps!

I had a similar dream as a child involving a huge boulder. At the time I suffered terrible feelings of anxiety due to extreme physical and verbal abuse. I was about 7 years old. The boulder represented my overwhelming sense of doom. I was so traumatized by my parents that I still urinated in my sleep until I was about 12 years old. I hope you weren't in a similar situation. It was horrible.

I don't know, but I know God knows. It's interesting how in the Bible, Daniel was able to answer the king of Babylon, who wanted not only to hear the interpretation of the dream (what it meant), but also he wanted someone who could flat out tell him what it was he dreamt, and THEN give the interpretation (meaning). Well, of course, his magicians and chaldean wise men couldn't do this, and so he knew they had been putting him on for years, just making up interpretations after he would give them the dream, which is why he made the requirement so hard this time.
Well, they were going to be hacked to pieces for not being able to answer his request, but Daniel saved them by coming before the king and not only giving the interpretation, but first telling the king what he had seen in his dream, and then giving the meaning. He made it clear he couldn't do this, but God had given him the meaning.
If you really want to know, I guess I'd seek God about it. And even if you never find out its meaning, seeking God will take care of all you need to know (seeking God through Jesus Christ as the Bible presents Him).
And when you are right with God, the dream will lose its power to terrify you.
