Well you have found just about the oldest argument known to humanity in that one. Free will verus predestination. Robert Heinlien in his book "Stranger in a strange land" came up with the best answer I have heard. "Last I checked the predestinationers and the free willers where tied in the ninth"

For myself I ask the old "Gamblers Question:" If you bet on free will and you have none you will end up exactly where predestination wanted you to be anyway. If there is free will and you do not follow your own chosen path look at all that could have been yours with a little courage.

My vote is act as you act, do as you do, be as you are, and know that every action comes at a price. Follow your true heart not fads or behaviors that you hope will bring you happyness. If you want to be popular or successful reaserch, learn and become them, dont run up big bills "pretending" to be rich like so many do now. A life lived on our own terms with a clear knowlege of the limitations of reality is a reward few people capture.

Best of luck.

No !!! There is no such thing as freedom, it is an ideal thought but not truly obtainalbe. If you were truly free to do what you want then you could kill some one and everyone else would say, "Well it's his freedom to do that."

The truth of it all is that we are ALLOWED to do things or we buy the privilage to do things like a drivers license.

Everything has some type of law, regulation, tax, fee, licensing, permits, what ever attached to it.

Even taking a dump !!! Has rules and regulations...

You have to be in a bathroom or get arrested, and then it goes through the sewer and gets processed by the town with all kinds of health regulations and laws.

You are not free, and as long as there are two people on the earth one will try to dictate to the other,,,

Not all the time...
It is difficult to be yourself...
Cause sometimes you have to adapt to the people around you or the atmosphere to make a living...
Then slowly because of adapting too much you tend to forgot the true you.. and that is when the depression inside of you starts to grow unintentionally... Then you start to feel lonly and no one understands you because you get bored or fed up of what you are trying to be...
Being yourself sometimes can be risky people out there are very smart and vicious they can catch your weakness and use it again you to reach where they want by your help ofcourse[by defending n defeating you]..

Would you recognize "yourself" if you met "yourself?" It is impossible to know who you truely are since as humans we learn from our enviornment and we are not hardwired as most organisms are so "being yourself" is an impossibility. We are what we learn and we interact with many other humans so in that sence we are more like those with whom we interact hence the concept of culture.

Yes; but do you have the guts to act upon that freedom?

2006-07-08 21:54:03 · answer #6 · answered by Anonymous · 0 0

yes u do have a freedom to be urself but u cant do that allways. most of the time u try to imitate others or try to hide urself and even if u try to be urself ppl dontlet u do that. if u do something wat u want they find it as arogence or wierdness. so this shows that u do have a freedom to be urself but it is disliked.

Only until the government or society tells you you can't, and enforces their "authority" over you "for your own safety".
