He never meant to take steroids. He was trying to throw them away, but he kept accidentally jabbing himself in the process.

wow, the media has really killed barry bonds. take away all this negative media coverage and not everyone in the world would be a barry bonds hater. he never needed them to play baseball. check what players have said about him. he's got an excellent eye (something steroids cant help) and a complete swing that also cannot be altered by enhancers. if you look at his individual seasons, its obvious that he didnt take steroids through his whole career. looking at his numbers leading up to 1999 he was steadily declining like all 30-somethings do. 2000 is the best bet for when he started juicing (as seen by his then best 49 HR). he was a great power hitter early in his career when he was still small. everyone looks back at when he was a skinny 185lb kid on the pirates and compares it to his 230lb stature now (weight gain is a significant sign of steroid use due to the physical shape you have to maintain). the fact is, he was still 185 after hitting 46 HR in '93 and weighed only 5lbs more up until the 1999 season. take away 2000-2006 and barry's numbers are still hall of fame worthy (.288-445HR-1299RBI-460SB-2010H-1455R-1430BB), not to mention getting MVP votes every year in the '90s (only player to do that) including wins in 1990,1992, &1993. He wasnt drafted as the pirates top pick in 1985 because he juiced, it was because he was a great young ballplayer who they knew would become a star and he did while becoming one of the most popular players of the '90s. it wasnt until all this steroid talk got blown out by the media that bonds became baseball fan's public enemy. do i think he used steroids? yes. do i think it was right that he did? no way. but do i think that he is a great player with or without steroids? of course and he would certainly have my vote for the hall of fame 5 yrs after he retires.

He would never throw a syringe, because he needs it. Not for steroids, um, because nobody told him it was steroids in there even though it is.
