What is up with the whole pirate & ninja crap?

I'm gettin' old so I can't keep up with these things.

It's an on going debate about which would win in a fight, popular among computer savvy young people...nerds if you will (I'm one, so hold the flaming). There is no clear answer, as it has never, and will never happen, but it's a good way to distract people while you slip in unnoticed and commence to reaking chaos on what ever it is that you do (video games, chat rooms, hacking, etc.)
