No one that lives now has actually been in slavery (well at least very unlikely). And I understand that a lot of black people are at a disadvantage because there are still racist white people. But why do I feel like some black people hate me the minute they see my white skin? I didn't do anything to them.

Sweetie, people of all races are racist in some way shape or form. It is what it is. You can't worry about what some people think of you. The only people whose thoughts of you matter are that of your family or friends. Get over it.

*The movie "Crash" showed me that even the people considered most evolved past racism still harbor it in some small way. It is a great movie. See it if you haven't. It will make you think about so many things.

There are people of all shapes, colours, races, religions etc that are racists, it isn't just the coloured people that are racist.

It's like saying why do black people break the law, well probably for the same reasons that other people break the law, and the same goes for being racist.

As for you thinking they hate you, is it something they actually tell you or are you just assuming that they hate you?
I am half australian koori half german and I don't hate you in fact here are very few people in the world that I hate, and if at any time I get the feeling that someone doesn't like me an it is worrying me I go over and ask them in an assertive way.

So maybe you should go and ask the people you are percieving to hate you whether they actually do hate you, and maybe you might find that they don't, and if by some chance they do then at least you know for sure and I am sure you are able to live without loosing any sleep just because they hate or don't like you.

Take it easy anyhow because not everyone in the world likes everyone else, and I am sure tht out of the 6 + billion people in this world there are probably thousands that don't like you for one reason or another, and if you worry about each and every one of them then you will end up going crazy.

I understand how you feel. It's not just you or you being white, I think it's because the ones you encounter give you hateful looks because you are better off then they are and are in a better class than they are , and they want to take out their anger on you. I am asian - american, and although I am friendly to everyone, I have been glared at and even cussed at and called a "B*tch" for no reason by a group of black kids in my neighborhood, even though I did nothing wrong but pass them. I think it's because certain black people that live in depressed areas of the city that are financially disadvantaged, see someone they think has their life together. They may resent you automatically thinking that you have a better life then they do. Plus, I do believe the people you run into you that hate you just as they hate me, may be racist towards you. People hate me the second they see me for no reason. I know that it bothers you to be hated automatically when they see you, but just remember, they were probably treated that way by other people and projected their anger towards you.
People treat you like that because they have been treated like that .

Many people of different ethic backgrounds are racist, not just blacks. I think that most blacks and others that are uneducated are racist because they don't know any better and they listen to older generations who didn't have the education to know any better. I used to have a friend like that and I never could understand why some blacks hate all whites because of slavery because any educated person that's been to college knows that black people owned slaves as well as white people. It wasn't about race, it was about economics. The world will be a better place when all this hate for one another diminishes and when people are responsible enought to blame themselves for bad times and not blame someone else just because of ones race.

It doesn't matter if we are not in slavery now some African Americans are still hurt by the way their ancestors were treated. People shouldn't assume that they know how others should think or feel because you have no idea what it is like to be in their skin or how issues affect them. ( and this goes for every race) I understand what you are saying but don't think that just because someone is walking down the street looking mean that its directed toward you. If there are people out there that decide they don't like you because of the way you look or skin color than screw them because their the ones not worth getting to know!

America has a history, and that history includes slavery. The victims of the slavery in America are the descendants of those slaves called African Americans. Slavery lasted for well over 400 years, and even after "slaves" were declared free, freedom for the African American was not equal to that of the Caucasian. This so-called "freedom" had to be fought for many years after slavery had ended, up until as recently as the late 60's......right here in the United States!!

Much of the recent struggles of the African Americans had been well documented during the 60s through the help of televised media. Many men, woman, and children were being beaten, lynched, and tortured regularly, just because they ONLY wanted to be acknowledged as human beings, and so, to be treated with dignity and respect. On top of all of this, their most articulate and brilliant leaders ( Martin Luther King Jr., Malcolm X, and Medgar Evers), had all been assassinated. The pain and strife of the African American had extended far beyond what they anticipated would come after the "Emancipation Proclamation".

The orphaned child will one day mature and want to have a meeting with it's true parents, to ask the question , "Why was it, that you ever disowned me?". And so it is today, that the descendants of former slaves, in observation of the causasian of today's America, ponders your reasonings behind such injustice and humility. :)

i think that's the consequences that most innocent white people should deal with. This is because racists from white people in the past.

well this question may have the same answer: why are some white people racist?

it doesnt matter what you are. racism are everywhere, black, white, red, yellow, etc.

That makes sense. Try to understand them. just ignore them. if they look at you really bad, treat them the opposite. be nice. if you treat them bad, this this will be like satanic circle--endless. stop it now once and for all--at least for yorself. just be good to them. they'll finally understand that they're making a mistake. they'll eventually feel embarashed. the they will start thinking "ok, not all white people are bad, this is my mistake"

Because some do. Why do some white people hate me the minute they see I'm black? It just is, we have ignorant people just like anyone else. Don't pay them any mind, I don't. And why blame white people for anything, I mean we did get ****** in the past but I don't hold all white people responsible. And nah I don't feel inferior to ANYONE, maybe some people do....

Because, just like white racists, they are so obsessed with color that they have trouble seeing the individual. Not a great deal you can do about it. If you attempt to argue with them, they will not use logic and reasoning, but emotional arguments. So just don't bother.

I have felt the same way, not just black people though, other races too, I think it depends on the person. Prejudice comes in all colors, not just white. I would hope that people would like me for me, just like I would do to them.
