There are the right and the wrong buttons to push...if you know how to push the right buttons, it means you know how to make people feel good, normally a person with good etiquette principals..Tactfull...
Pushing the wrong buttons would have the opposite effects...not a tact full person and not having good etiquette principals.

To push buttons means to piss off. If you know how to push a persons buttons it means you know how to piss them off.

It means that you know exactually what will make someone mad or argusome, and you say that to them and they get anxious or angry.
It isn't a nice thing to do. this to people, but it happens.
For instance you know that your man hates when you chew with your mouth full and you do it knowing that it will make him upset and angry.
Or he knows that you get upset when he talks abouth is X girlfriends and he does it when he wants to argue or upset you.

It means you know how to either make them mad, which is generally the situation, or you know how to get them going , talking on a subject they may be well versed in
