When I purchased my new computer it used DDR 2700 RAM. My old computer used what is known as PC133. I was hoping to use my old RAM to upgrade the RAM in my new computer but I was told I couldn’t. Why is RAM different, and what are the differences between the older PC133 RAM and the new DDR Ram?

Hi,
RAM is different because of hardware improvements.

A similar question could be why is a turbo charged V8 different than a lawn mower engine?

As technology changes there is a threshold of compatibility of what will work within a certain 'age' of components.

Motherboards, memory and processors are all 'linked' at various stages of evolution.

Memory had gone through another recent change add to this the newer PCI Express and it just gets staggering.

It used to take about 12 - 24 months for new hardware to come out and about 3-7 years for something to become obsolete. Divide that in half in today's world.

I have a processor a 32 bit (AMD 3000+) that is not that old, but I found out that they don't even manufacture the motherboards for this chip anymore.

So my only alternative is to find one for sale or upgrade to the 64 bit.

That's what happens with the onward march of technology.

Memory's main function is to store information.

It used to be the only thing you had to worrry about was the speed of the memory, now there are many different types as well.

Google memory and do some research.

In your case the memory is incompatible PC1333 is really old stuff by todays standards and would barely keep up with the speed that would be necessary. Also if I am not mistaken the physical pin configuration is different also.

in case you purchased the 240 pin and your operating ddr sd ram take it lower back grab a pc2700 or pc3200 184 pin 400mhz (pc3200) or 333mhz (pc2700) what ever your structures bus speed is that if it doesnt fit dont jam it in there or youll be determining to purchase a clean motherboard which ability you've gotten to get all new aspects for it too because the former stuff may likely be incompatible and oh yeah you may ought to purchase the OS agian so dont cut back to rubble your memory banks please

the old PC133 RAM also called SDRAM is slow and costly whereas the DDR rams are fast and cheap.

DDR rams also come in >400mhz...

the SDRAMs are hardly available these dayz...

hahah

technology dear its all technology
older RAM is of SDRRAM
now we have DDRRAM earlier that was slower now very very fast like if u have 512SDRRAM then
DDRRAM will cover that speed in only 256
this is two times better then older RAM

ok dear technology always moves up and fast
