Curious how so many bashers show up between Saturday night and Sunday morning, after bar closing time, in the wee hours ere the sunrise Sunday morn. One wonders about that, one does. LOL.

So, could that question be turned around saying "why do women talk like gay men?" I am a married woman, just so you know, but most of the gay men that I have known in my life time, don't use slang a lot, and are for the most part well dictioned....now there are the exceptions to this I know, but I have found many of them to possess strong maternal instincts, and can carry on a conversation that straight men can't seem to handle. I am not for or against the homosexual community, just simply stating what I have observed.

John Wayne? Geez, really. Are you sure you're not thinking of Rock Hudson. Anyway, on with the answer.

When someone talks, walks, or carries on in a fashion that is effeminate, some people will assume he is gay. But that's not always true. I've seen men who I have discovered to be happy heteros, who on first glance one might label as "Nellie."

Even as a gay man myself, I felt out of it until I got to know more gay people, because I thought all gay men talked with a lisp, had limp wrists, and made flower arrangements in their spare time. If you take the time to get to know some gay (and lesbian and even trans) people, you'll find that in the main, they are more like your straight friends than they are different.

You don't know that many gays at all - or all you know about them is on tv.

Many gay guys speak with out the "accent". Many gay guys dress like straight people.

The media will report a gay event and show but ugly drag queens, weird leather guys in chaps showing there butts, paunchy butch lesbian truck driver types. This sells papers but does not represent how most gays are.

If you honestly got to know a lot of gay people and talked to them one one you wouldn't make a post this.

Many don't. What you are seeing is a sterotype or a gay "fashion". It's an assent some use. Many gays sound normal as far as speech patters, and you wouldn't know one way or the other. I guess you could ask why all religous peopel sound like Bigits, or all celebs sould like valley girls? It's a closed minded sterotype protrayed on TV for entertainment purposes.

It is an effeminate affectation that some Gay men adopt to legitimize their way of being. Not all Gay talk like that, especially when they are in the closet, i.e. Rock Hudson, Jim Nabors, etc.

Not all gay men talk effeminately or what you refer to as talking like a woman. You probably just watch to much TV with stereotypical images of what a gay man is supposed to be, sound, or look like. Gay men differ just as much as straight guys.

Those guys on MTV - good god. They're no more representative of the gay population than straight people who go on "Next" or "Room Raiders" or "Parental Control" or "Date My Mom" or [whatever else] are representative of the straight population...They're just an extreme cross-section of the population. HELLO - it's called "entertainment," and what better entertainment for heteros than gay men "living out" straight people's stereotypes?
I hate MTV...

They don't. They talk like gay men, except the ones that don't, which is most of them.

I've been a woman for a long, long time and have never talked like a gay man.
