N. Korea is China's first line of defense. The first line of offense too. Why not let N. Korea pick a fight with the U.S. anytime it wants to?
I believe that when/if we have trouble with China, N.Korea will be the "point man", to take the first hits for China.

China would benefit if the US became entangled in conflict with North Korea.
The US would find itself fighting wars on two fronts, and gradually becoming weaker as the nation's resources are expended.
As long as they build up their military while the US depletes its resources on smaller countries, the Chinese will only gain in strength, waiting until the time is ripe to invade Taiwan and gain a strategic military victory.
Iraq is a huge mistake for the US.

China's position in the economy is tensuous, at best. For years there economy has suffered by the rise some middle east countries as manufacturing super-powers, specifically Sudan and Pakistan, but there are others. In addition, Chinas population has taxed its resources. As it stands, China is one of the largest importers of steel from the US because it can;t keep it;s own plants building to need. For China to place it's vote squarely in one corner or the other at this time would be economic suicide. They fear sanctions from other nations, boycotts, or, maybe worse, hitching their wagon to someone that would ultimately lead them to a war they cannot afford. But, be assured... China will at some point , have to weigh in on the matter.

Why would the PRC stop North Korea from wasting US resources and political energies?
It's called _misdirection_. It's the same tactic the Shrub regime uses whenever their poll numbers get too low.

Why should they? Korea needs them. The Chinese are probably laughing at our predicament.
