find out if my norton anti virus is running, i did purchase it when i bought my computer but i just have this feeling that my boyfriend was messing around on the computer and might have turned it off, so what do i do to find out if i am being protected? P.S. The reason i dont feel protected is because as soon as i turn on the computer i get spy alerts.

Hey. I run Norton programs for my server security, so I know what you're looking for.

In the bottom right hand corner of your screen, there are several icons down there. If you're running Windows NT/XP you're going to want to click the (<) button to show all those icons. Now you should see a computer looking kind of thing, and when you keep your mouse over it, it should have a tooltip pop up saying "Norton Antivirus 200#" and such.

If you don't see that running, what you're going to want to do is go to your start menu -> Programs -> Norton Antivirus 200# -> and then click Norton Antivirus.

Then you must go and turn on your auto-protect (How to do this varies with your version of NAV).

For future reference, if you have any more problems, you can go to the Symantec Support Website (http://support.symantec.com).

Hi,
Norton will usually have an icon that is located on the lower right hand of your monitor screen (the system tray) that will indicate if it is working.

You can also look and see if it is running by pressing ctrl-alt-delte and look in the processes.

Norton usually starts as a service.
Start Button -> Run ... services.msc

this will list the services. Find the one for Norton and see if it has been disabled or not.

Spy alerts? That usually indicates, in most cases your anti-spyware is working and informing you there is something it found

You most likely would not be getting spy alerts if the av is NOT running. You can go to Add and remove programs (start|settings|control panel| add and remove programs and see when it was last accessed) you can also right click on your task bar (or hit alt + cntrl+ delete| task manager) and see if the processes are running. You can also go to the Norton website (http://www.symantec.com/techsupp/index.html) and go their online help to walk u thru the steps to help you see if you are running AV.

Good luck- btw- Trend Micro PC Cillin is waaaayyyyy better at catching viruses- go to www.trendmicro.com for a look.

salam,

check the services in controlpanel->administrative tools->services

and find Norton or Symantec Antivirus client, if it is running so you are protected.

if you don't have the icon of Norton Antivirus in notification area, ususally at the bottom of the desktop at your right, and the service is running, so you need to run norton antivirus from the start->All programs and config it to show the icon, it is usually the best visual way to keep you inform of the application availability.

best regards,

open the panel of norton antivirus.
u'll have the status right on top...and if it's not enables...it shows it in red color...

and even check all the services of norton in the panel itself.
