Have you ever really hurt yourself and had a horrible wound/bruise (from being clumsy and falling into something, falling down a flight of stairs, "rough-housing" with your spouse/gf/gf/whatever) and gone to work (or a friends house) and your co-workers (friends) are convinced that your spouse (or whatever) is abusive?

I'm wondering because this happened to me a few years ago. we lived in a basement apartment and I had been drinking and almost fell down 15 stairs but caught my shoulder on the hand rall...probably saved my life, but I had a bruise that was the size of a grapefruit (and lasted for months). My boss was convinced that my husband was hitting me. It was really funny...she even tried talking me into going to a battered women's home.

and I don't know what to put this under so sorry if its "miscatergorized"..

my husband says that this only happened...my boss trying to get me to go to a battered women's home, is because he is from an arabic country...which I don't think is true. I was always going to work with some kinda wound on me...I bruise easily and I always have a bruise/scab somewhere that I've got to mess with...lol

I really wasn't that drunk...I think it was the shoes I was wearing....lol....no seriously!!.. That really makes me sound like I'm making an excuse....hahahaha

But my husband wouldn't hurt me...he is too nice to do something like that...and besides..we would both be in pain if he hit me...I fight back...hahhaha

Let me get a few things straight. My boss was an American (being that I have lived here for almost all my life...well besides the times that I had to move [as a child...being that I'm a military (or retired) brat]...in America. I'm married to an Arabic man (from Morocco). My boss was (in my husbands mind) worried that, because I was married to a foreigner (and Arabic as well), that he was hitting me. I guess because you always hear stories of women who've been beaten(sp?) by their (Arabic) husbands...or you hear that the children they have were kidnapped by the husband and taken to his home country.

But I've got to say...I've seen more abusive behavior from American couples (both being American) then I've seen in an inter-racial (would they be inter-racial...or international?) couples.

I wrecked my mountain bike one time and had a pretty good scratch across my forehead. One of the girls I work with called my gf to see if she was ok because she thought that the scratch had come from her scratching me to defend herself..

I guess its good for people to worry but it is kinda funny.

Oh yeah, I have fallen down goofing off with the kids before and got bad bruises. Then my friends thought that my husband hit me. The only reason I got a bruise there ( right under my butt cheek ) was because I didn't catch myself. Was busy holding onto my then 1 1/2 year old. Saved him not me. People assume too much.

well because abuse is more widely talked about now , more people worry that someone is being abused . and it is a natural reaction to see a bruise and wonder what happened , but if its a huge 1 then red flags pop up in your head . the Arab boss just cares so don't be upset by him . just calmly explain to him that no your husband doesn't hit you and and you don't need to go to a safe house

I bruise easily and never know where and when I got them. I sometimes wonder if people are questioning the same thing that my husband is abusing me.

I know women that this has happened to. But I can't help but think, there are over 200,000 battered women in the usa today, and all these years, I've been eating them plane.

Nope this has never happened to me. You're lucky you have people that care about you and a non-abusive spouse. I do bruise easily tho.

white people (not race but skin tone) bruise by being touched! its bs when someone pulls the race card like that. most people are over sensitive, they dont see these situations funny

I cringe whenever my wife hurts herself, because so many ignorant people ASSUME that I did it to her
