Is freedom something you can attain (like nirvana) or is it just a step in the direction of better things?

freedom is what you make it. i think you start free and then become less free both throughout the span of your life, as well as through the progression of society. with freedom comes responsibility and too many people would rather allow the government to make decisions for them rather than take responsiblity for themselves and as a result, a less free society ensues. i fear our days as a 'free' society are numbered.

There has to be steps to achieve freedom so it's an end product. However, we in America have the freedom to change things by voting and being a good citizen, so in that case, we are using the end we already achieved to achieve a new means. It depends on what you are trying to do. Only in America can we even do this!!! What a great land we live in!

I don't agree with Z and Glory, I live in Australia and we can vote and change things with our vote. And yes freedom lets us do that, but America is but one country with that power, NOT the only one!
