Emerson, Lake, and Palmer is labelled as "progressive" rock, or prog rock. Lots of classical influences in composition. Some large, expansive pieces up to about 20 minutes long. The big hits are "Lucky Man" from the first album, "From the Beginning" from the album Trilogy, "Still You Turn Me On" and "Karn Evil 9 (1st Impression Part 2)" from the Brain Salad Surgery album.
ELP is very worthwhile music to get into, but not for just background music. They are an acquired taste that takes some effort to get where they're coming from, but when you get it, it's well worth it!
