As already said yes it will. At launch the PS3 will actually have the hardware for the PS2 inside. Sony were planning on it playing games via emulation but havnt finished the software so for now will use hardware hence the high price. A later firmware update will then render this hardware obsolete.

Games will also be downloadable via HUB but at a cost. Even if you already own it on the PS2 if you decide to download you have to pay. Think its about £5-8 per game.

At present sony report about 40 games wont work. But out of the thousands these are likely to be nothing really.

Yes and you will be able to download new games from the PS3 web service (similar to XBOX Live).
