Short answer: I don't believe anyone made this assertion, but it's hard to fault someone (or some country) for defending itself. That goes for both sides.
Long answer: If the PLO wants to be taken seriously by the world community, Hamas should not be forced to renounce violence (although it should renounce violence against civilans) because it also has a right to self defense, but it *MUST* recognize Israel's right to exist despite arguement over where its exact borers lie. This is non-conditional. If your rhetoric demands that your enemy not even be *recognized* then your indication is that you will *never* be willing to even attempt a diplomatic solution.
And I'm not entirely convinced that the Palestinian peoples' election of Hamas is a bad thing yet, assuming the party can change to face the current reality that these two peoples have no other choice but to talk to one another and work this out. There likely will never be a clear winner in the military struggle... ever... unless negotiations produce *two* winners!

The same reason the U.S. thinks it can act above international law - arrogance. The best may to prevent terrorism is to stop participating in it.

Israel isn't above the law. They are defending themselves and doing a damn fine job of it too! They are a tough little nation that has to protect themselves on ALL borders because the Arabs all around them are always fvckin' with 'em!

They are "not" above the law... they ARE the law!
They are God's people, like it or not! They operate in a purely defensive mode; they never start a fight, they only finish it! they have every right to defend themselves, just like you do, whenever they are attacked!

They aren't above any law. The problem is that a nation has a right to defend itself from terrorism, but one man's terrorist is another's revolutionary.
