I'm 14, and I hate it when people on here or people I know write with z's instead of s's and write da instead of the. I don't act like I care or say anything to them, but I just always wonder why people do that. What's the point? To make it look cool? It looks really stupid and ignorant. Example: Wat is dat song wit da singer in it?

I'd like to add that I'm considered cool in my school and not a nerd in anyway. Some of you were probably thinking, "Oh, she's just like that because she's a nerd." I'm not, I just think it's stupid, sorry.

Hell, I don't know. Back in my elementary school days they actually used to teach us useful things like how to type efficiently...I would think that if you actually knew how to type correctly then switching the letters around to 'shorten' it would make it go slower.

But hey, what do I know...

That type of writing really came about because of cell messaging, as it is very annoying to write out full words on a cell keypad compared to a standard keyboard. It spread from there to other forms of text communication such as instant messaging and e-mail, even though the purpose has been lost.

Why do people do it? Some people think it looks cool, some people are lazy, and some people do it just because others do it. It's like a lot of things people do. Remember that teens generally don't care about looking or sounding intelligent.

On a side note, if you do really hate it when people intentionally misspell stuff, you probably have talent with English or language in general.

Because they really can not spell and don't have enough sense to learn the correct spelling and use spell check. They don't understand that to get high on the food chain, they need to learn how to write well to get a good job.

I'm twelve and I actually use spell check when I'm answering a question.I know,I'm a dork.I think it is sometimes annoying when people type like that, but I do too.Sometimes.I guess it can just turn into a habit and if your lazy you wouldn't want to correct every single word you type, especially if you have bad grammar and spelling.

Oh, no. I firmly believe in proper spelling and grammar. I am an English/Biology major. Even when I was in high school, (one year ago) I believed that spelling and grammar was important. No one can truly understand you if you can't clarify your meaning. I agree with you completely.

its just a fad, it started somewhere in the chatroom era, then spread to IM. You dont have to do it to be cool, but the people who use it think they are cool. Its kinda like the hackers who write their own form of language as well. <00|_! whatever...
