you almost had my vote for best answer, and then you had to throw in that, wars have started crap, we did not go to war for OIL, we went to war to free a nation, it scares me that united states citizens are happy about freedom, unless we are giving it to another country, SHAME ON YOU! we did not go to war for oil, talk to a soldier in iraq ask them why we are at war! ask an iraqi national, why we went to war!! you may just be suprised at the answers,

Are you looking for the number 1 petroleum exporter to he U.S. or a list of all countries? In any case, the U.S. receives it's two largest petroleum imports from North American countries. Canada being # 1 and Mexico being # 2. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is actually 3rd on the list!

This may change in the near future. African countries have been emerging as competitive petroleum exporters; recent Chinese interest in Africa supports this fact. Also, Russia and the former Soviet states are blessed/cursed with substantial petroleum reserves/assets that have yet to be tapped.

P.S. With all due respect, why is this a 'really good question'?

I may be guessing, but, it appears that you are as convinced as I am that the general public is truly unaware of these facts. Such ignorance is dangerous! I do agree. In fact, wars have begun this way!
