If you were still married but just split up for those 6 months, yes, you can file jointly...But if you divorced in Feb and re married in Aug..you can only file on the months you were married...Good luck on your marriage...

Tax law goes by what you were as of Dec. 31 2006. If you are married on that date then you can file Married Filing Jointly.

Your marital status on 31 of December is the day that counts so if you are still together by the 31 of December then file jointly. This answer is valid in Canada only for south of the border try

You can file taxes jointly as long as you are married, unless you decide not too after being separated more than 6 mos in TX, don't know what applies in other states.

According to the law you HAVE to...being separated is not having a divorce, you are still legally married and have to file jointly.

For which year? You can file jointly for the year, where you were married on December 31st. Even if you got married on Dec 30th of that year.

yes because your legally still married even though you got separated. When you file, you don't even have to say anything about separation unless you got legally separated then you might need to see a tax specialist...
