It is too late to ask that question. Once we went in it became a do or die. Without having Iraq a workable place, one gets another Vietnam's re-education camps & Cambodia's Killing fields.

Because they tried to kill W's Daddy.

Because W managed to convince the majority of Americans that Saddam was behind 9/11, despite this not being true.

Because they have lots of oil, and Americans need oil to put in their big cars.

Because Haliburton saw there was lots of money to be made.

Because the USA can do whatever the hell it wants to do, and damn the consequences.

W declared the war to have been won quite a few years ago.

Are you guys still technically at war with Iraq? If you are, your president should at least have the decency to tell you. When he flew that fighter plane he said the war was over, so I dunno....

Here is my theory on Iraq: there are perhaps hundreds of thousands of highly motivated "jihadists" who hate the USA - it's a foreign policy thing, as you know. Now that Iraq has descended into anarchy, all these jihadists want to go to Iraq so that they can kill Americans. So they go to Iraq and there they can shoot and bomb and kill American troops to their hearts content.

So Iraq is kind of a destination for people who want to kill Americans. If I was American, I would be very worried about what will happen once the war is over. The Jihadists will no longer be able to go to Iraq to kill Americans...so where do you think they will want to go then?

That is when your troubles will really begin...so be happy that war is still going on. It could be much worse!

We're not at war with Iraq. We're at war in Iraq.

Saddam Hussein ignored 17 UN resolutions to prove he had no WMDs. He never came up with the evidence, and the UN passed another resolution giving the authority to use force. SH is gone. Democracy is in place and taking root in Iraq and hopefully it will spread through the Middle East. (Kuwait just had their first free elections a few weeks ago)

Oh and 500 sarin and mustard shells have been found in Iraq, but the liberal media won't tell you that.

Well lets see first they had a part in 9/11, oh but wait their is no link between Saddam and osama, so then it was because Saddam had weapons of mass destruction, oh wait they didn't have weapons of mass destruction, then it was because he was trying to get WMD's, O ya they really weren't trying to get them, Then we went to war with them because they were abusing the oil for food program. And what ever trumped up charges that the GW administration could make up. Their is no real reason GW wanted a war with Iraq since his first day in office. O ya and the mustard gas and Sarene gas weapons they found? The united States already knew about those they were over 20 years old!!! Just in case the CONSERVATIVE media forgot to tell you that!!!!

What will the final cost be is a better question. Does anyone seriously think the Iraqis are going to keep and maintain order once we're gone?

If 3 years of military presence by the US hasn't brought calm and order, what makes anyone think Iraq will stabilize after we leave?

because saddam hussein had weapons of mass destruction. the united nations submitted 17 resolutions over 10 years (only one was needed to justify war) stating that iraq was in violation of their agreement signed at the end of the first gulf war. they said they had destroyed the weapons but offered no evidence to support that and interfered with the UN inspectors attemping to find the records supporting the claims of destruction.

so far we have found over 500 weapons of mass destruction in Iraq that saddam claimed did not exist.

First of all, junior, we aren't at war with Iraq, we are at war in Iraq with a group of hardened terrorists and fanatical insurgents who hide behind innocent women and children and shoot at soldiers from mosques and hospitals. They care nothing for rules of war, and are in league with the MSM to bring down America.

OIL

The original given name of the war was:

Operation
Iraqi
Liberation

They changed the name because of the obvious anagram.

Because Saddam ignored over a decade of UN resolutions.
