we vote for our represetatives from the local level, to the state level, up to the national level.
we are no longer a true democracy because at the higher levels, the representatives act more on behalf of special interest groups, lobbyists, the wealthy, the campaign contributors, and corporations insted of the interests of the citizens who voted them in.

technicaly we are a democracy, but realy in name only. I think that when the population of a nation reaches a certain point the people stop thinking for themselves, and the government takes over the thinking for them.
