Witch Hazel is a natural astringent, which means it has a drying property. It is similar to alcohol in that when it evaporates, it evaporates so quickly that it takes some of the water on your skin with it. In this way, it will keep your skin drier, which will open your pores and let your skin breathe.
Witch Hazel is purely topical, so don't ever drink it. It will not affect your medications. You may also use it in a bath with a drop of lavender essential oil and chamomile oil. (These are the real essential oils and not some manufactured stuff that smells like it. They can be a little expensive but you only need a drop. You can find real essential oils at New Age shops...)
The more important thing may be what you eat. You need to eat foods that do not contribute to an over saturation of oils in the body. Stay away from greasy, fried foods like fries and burgers, pizza and cheeses. (I know, I know!)
In the mornings, have a giant bowl of oatmeal. This will actually help your body absorb the oils that are in your gut and transport them out of your body. Eat fresh fruits and vegetables all day long. Snack, do not gorge down on a huge meal.

Best of luck to you!
