For every lie that's told, the liar loses a piece of himself. They are in a constant state of bewilderment as, one by one, friends and loves are lost. A liar can't be trusted and isn't fooling anyone. Liars generally think everyone else is stupid and will believe them. The reality is that they will become isolated because they are total shallow phonies. Oh, sure, people will be polite, but distant. That is the sad truth about lying.

It's far better to be a real person who makes mistakes and isn't always cool, but is accountable and honest.

No one really believes a lie, a lie is define by proposly saying something that is not true. Saying something that is not true and actually believing what was said is not technically a lie, it is a mis-statement. But the effect is this same so what does it matter which it was. The trick is to learn that only if you know something to be fact to state it as such, any other time it should be worded for an opinion or interpetation. Just my point of view on it.

I used to have a neighbor who fancied himself an artist, who said that the truth had no special significance to him over an interesting lie. He lied because he had the imagination to think up something more interesting than the truth, and loved to see someone else buy the lie. Not unlike the way he loved to see someone else take his "art" seriously, when he was really just using paint and charcoal as an excuse to avoid getting a real job. He'd get one "sugar daddy" after another to support him "so he could have the time to paint," and just mess around. I did not find a significant difference between him and a prostitute. But of course his lie was that he loved the old man who paid his rent.

He/she may be a pathological liar, or an addict of some sort. Lying is one of the things that come with addiction. And I've had experience with pathological liars. When given a choice between telling the truth or a lie, they'll lie. It's not for gain, or to protect themselves, but just what they do.

Because some people lie constantly, even when there's no reason to. It's a form of braggadocio-- "I'm cool because I can pull the wool over people's eyes." Avoid such people if you value your sanity.
