From what I understand, the closer you get to the speed of light, the slower time moves. So theoretically, could our world have been created in the "six days" as purported in the Bible? Of course the sun hadn't been created till day 4, so I realize the inherent problem--but if they were indeed 'earth days'--with the relativity of time taken into consideration--is it possible if the observer were moving at the speed of light?

The accuracy of the Bible and existence of God is beside the point.

You might even add: Considering that god is most probably energy traveling, at the speed of light.

The problem here is that for anything traveling at the speed of light, time becomes infinite for the reference point that is not moving. This is how god can be everywhere at the same time.

Hmmm.....

Someone who is studying relativity, at the present time, could do the calculations for speeds under the speed of light. All you need to do is get the age of our planet 4.54 billion years (4.54 x 10 to the 9th) or maybe the age of the universe, 13.7 to 20 billion years (13.7 x 10 to the 9th) to (20.0 x 10 to the 9th) and plug it in.

Here is a table of time dilation for speeds under light speed: http://www.btinternet.com/~j.doyle/SR/sr4/sr4.htm

To get to the actual point of the question, yes it is possible. For this to happen, one must use the earth as a reference frame. You personally would have to accelerate to a very very large fraction of the speed of light and travel around the universe for what you consider 6 days as your proper time. The relative time on Earth would have been the however many billion years the Earth has been around. So basically, if you use the observer as the proper frame and are accelerated all over and around the universe, you could be gone for what seems like a short amount of time while billions of years went by on Earth. You can do the calculation however im sure the relativistic factor will be tremendous.

Then again, in all fairness, we have observed particles that had far greater relativistic factors. Some would have 'viewed' the entire development of the universe within a matter of 16 days. Of course, those particles are themselves fascinating and continue to confuse astronomers since theres no way such particles could have been detected here on Earth at the speeds they were traveling at unless a tremendous energy source existed close to the earth (of course, such an energy source is no where to be found). Look up the GZK limit for more information on such particles.

The answer to the question has to do with whether or not you have faith in the story, the word? If you have faith in all that, whats the difference, it is what it is..so sayeth the Bible. Obviously its a metaphor that may not have originally been written as we now read it. Biblical 'stories' are an accumulation of narratives written by 'thinkers' over several hundred years, in various parts of the mid east, to portray wisdom as they knew it to a relatively uneducated mass of people. Because of the multiple language inequities, simple stories were used to protray 'concepts' that may actually involve complicated ideas. ....which were eventually edited and consolidated into the first biblical text...and accepted as truth by the 'believers' . . . . . and questioned by the 'not so believers'. From a not so believer, the earth was not 'built'..and it took a hell of a lot longer then six days and several ' near miss's ' to evolve to the stage at which man began writing about and describing the laws that best protected society from one another while he lived and enjoyed what the earth was providing for him at that point in time.
I think there's an experiment going on having to do with the theory that if a man left the earth in a space ship and came back in ten years...he would be somehow younger then when he left...whatever...but they tested the thoery using mice or plants or an atomic clock or something...seems Einstien was correct, the clock slowed down.. .

I've often wondered all the same things, and the best conclusion that I can come to is found within the Bible... It says in 2 Peter 3:8 "But, beloved, do not forget this one thing, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day." We as humans have calculated our own system of time, but maybe, just maybe God has his own system of time, OR He is out there moving faster than the speed of light, so what He would call a day would be like a thousand years to US... I'm not sure....But, I do believe the earth WAS made in 6 "days"...Good question...

No. No. No.

Why would you even ask such a question? The bible account of creation is wrong in every conceivable respect. Wrong order. Wrong relative time scales. Wrong precedences.

As a basis for a scientific theory you may as well assert the universe was sneezed from the nose of a multidimensional mega goat called Fred. Its about as credible.

Six periods because the ancient translation from Amharic into Hebrew and then into Greek was inaccurate. The idea that the world was created in six days goes against evolutionary theory which is the basis of modern science.

There are a lot of figurative things in the Bible, we dont know how time moves in Gods eyes so 6 'days' to him could be 6 hundred years to us. It could mean 60, 6000 or 6,000,000 days/years for all we know.

well...being that the God or intelligence that created our world and universe is really that powerful, it would seem they'd also have control over time itself. Whats a day to such a being? Dawn to Dusk could take 100 billion years and it wouldn't matter because this being is infinite and powerful.

God moves in a different time continuum. it's something a saint like me can't even comprehend. may be a borg or captain piccard or janeway might understand.
