You wouldn't get an infection from playing the clarinet. The infection would come from bacteria that got in your mouth. If you want to prevent that from happening by way of your clarinet, make sure you swab your horn after you play, particularly the mouthpiece, and don't let anyone else use your mouthpiece.
If you use bamboo reeds make sure to change them frequently. I used to keep four that I rotated. Even with today's plastic reeds it's a good idea to have a couple that you rotate.

Not that I am aware of, but keep your mouthpiece clean and store your reeds properly. I played clarinet for 4 years and loved it. Hope you enjoy.

It's not really something to worry about. You can scrape or scratch your mouth if you don't take good care of your reeds, so um, take good care of them.
Just use a little common sense, don't let other people play your instrument (at least, not using your mouthpiece) if you're worried about spreading bugs. Anything else on there came from your own mouth.

You could certainly get a mouth infection from using a mouthpiece and reed that had been played by someone else. Always use your own mouthpiece and reeds.

If you can get one then the best and safest way to avoid it is by not playing it at all.
