What is your source of information? My guess a homeless advocacy group looking for a little more funding to help an unemployed homeless advocate?

There are lots of studies that do not support the "theory" that people are homeless because they have mental illness. There was a major study that I read in depth about ten years ago that was done in Chicago that compared the percentage of people who were homeless and the people who were poor but housed, with regards to how many had mental illness and it was found there was no statistical difference between the homeless and the housed in this study. Another Toronto study that was carefully orchestrated found that less than 11% of homeless became that way for reasons at all related to mental illness (although addictions was slightly higher). In a recent study conducted by Street Health in Toronto, they took over 100 random people who were homeless but suffering from numerous disabilities, including mental health issues, but who were not receiving disability benefits ... this organization sent somebody to help these folks navigate the system until they were all approved for disability benefits and at the end, 100% of those approved for disability benefits were able to find housing on their own.
The reason why some people want to say that homeless are there because of mental health or addictions is because they want to let the government and other agencies off the hook by assuming it is the homeless person's fault and that they cannot manage to assume responsibility. Yes, this may be true in a minority of cases (and not all of this "minority" are mentally ill). They just want to deny the fact that the country's social safety net is in tethers and does not do the job the country's fathers promised it would.
No, homelessness is not going to be helped by charity and people just giving when they want and how much they can, as such "giving" is random and insufficient to produce permanent results. There are also studies that show that being a recipient of this type of charity only entrenches low self-esteem and feelings of powerlessness among those who are homeless and needy. They need a hand-up, not a hand-out.
Governments have to be taught that they are largely responsible for this mess, as they set rules for taxation, regulations, economic policies, and so forth ... and we do not have a full employment society. I don't care what the statistics say. Many of these homeless people DO work, but they do not work enough hours or get paid enough to support themselves and their families. Something is very wrong where a CEO can make millions of dollars and pay its workers that essentially keep that CEO in business peanuts. We have to look at a new way of how the people, business and state interact, so there IS a social safety net (not just an imaginary one).

In order for MONEY to have any VALUE, there needs to be poor people willing to do anything for a couple of bucks. By keeping a lot of people homless, they become cheap labor which enriches the already rich.
But, a lot of people who are NOT homeless do live paycheck to paycheck, they are just a tiny better than people living in the streets and they far outnumber people living in the streets.
Those are the kind of malleable and ductile workers the rich are looking for in order to maximize the value of their money.
If everybody had money, nobody would be willing to endure degradation, lack of respect and hard work, hence nobody could be rich.
Also, homeless people and poor people should STOP making kids. Only the rich should breed.

Because there is alot of selfishness in the world, and especially here. More churches can get involved with the homeless. More organizations can hold benefit dinners and events with the proceeds going to stop homelessness. It first starts with the families and how children are taught to fight poverty.

Because the aid money that would normally serve to take care of our homeless is being spent in places like Texas, giving medical care to the mothers of the next generation of illegals from Mexico...well until the anchor baby law is changed, they'll be americans, but I sense that there just might be support for abolishing that practice, too...

Yes we are and we do. It is shameful. I have worked and donated to the homeless for years and it is something that doesnt get enough attention. Many of these people are mentally ill and cannot take care of themselves but somehow we are conditioned to think that they are living this way because they are lazy or strung out on drugs. Some are homeless and working stiffs that were living paycheck to paycheck. The whole family sleeps in the family car in fear of going to shelters because they are afraid the children will be taken from them and fear of being assaulted in the shelters. Sad situation.

Good question maybe it's because all the money that could go to them is going to other countries who have poor people living in them so they will not start a war because it seems the only way to get out of proverty for some nations is to start a war with another country and drag other countries into it ie the Second World War. Also it seems that there is to many over lapping of services and sometimes people can't get to these services because they don't know where to look or where to go for help. The next thing is a lot of these people have problems lack of education, health problems and drug problems. A lot of land lords will not rent rooms to people who have mental health or drug problems. Not enough social housing, all our money seems to be going as where as I stated earlier to your answer to my question. Not enough good paying jobs. It seems all American jobs are going to China and India thanks to Walmart and it's our lowest price is the law rule. Also a lot of countries budget goes into the military to help protect itself from foreign invaders or to protect it's foreign policies over seas.

Fact is, the vast majority of them choose to live in the streets. Don't believe me? Take one in and see how long he/she sticks around. Most of them have mental disorders complicated by alcoholism and/or drug addiction. Don't believe me? Get to know some of them. Then get it from the horse's mouth. That is, if you REALLY care to know.
