Which store do you prefer and why?

Target absolutely. I've only been in WalMart 3 or 4 times in my life and each time is worse than the last. Sticky crap all over the floor, lowlife clerks, products and merchandise in disarray, and a war zone in the parking lot. I love Target and find that if you shop the advertised sales, the price difference is negligible from WalMart. Target has really kicked it up a notch in the past 5 years and is now a leading retailer across the country with its innovative TV and newspaper ads and trendy merchandise.
K-Mart, on the other hand, went out of business in my area due to slow sales and stiff competition from Target and WalMart. Personally, I'd rather pay a few pennies more at Target than to have to go through the misery of the WalMart experience.

The stores are considered equal regarding return policies. All 3 department store chains hold 90-day w/ receipt 30-day without on almost anything you buy. Returning unwanted items for store credit, however, is the guiding principal here. Once your money is locked into their account, it really doesn't matter if you walk into your local Walmart to return the hairdryer after 30-90 days of use, because you'll be walking out with a new blouse, snacks, or some CD's. But if your really shrewd, you'll upgrade to the newer model hairdryer or go to Target and buy one to return there in 30-90 days. And so on and on. Hey, I'm just saying all products wear out, so keep them new. By the way, I've noticed more and more exceptions under Wal-marts policy even though they have been the leader in this business for over a decade.

No doubt, Wal-mart will always be #1 if you can never be satisfied with purchasing an item and throwing it out when it breaks. Besides, I heard Wal-mart gives the world more jobs than any company ever has.

Let's see Walmart has clueless employees and it always looks like a flea market after it has closed, only Walmart looks like that all day long.
Target is much better but you can never find an employee at all. I mean they all seem to flee when you have a question. Target stores are much cleaner, but their prices are higher.
K-Mart completely went under after walmart came in and they were disgusting and smelled. K-Mart has now reemerged and I have found that at least there are no other customers to get in your way, I mean K-Mart is deserted.

The only problem is that Wal-Mart is still the closest store to me, although, I hate, hate, hate, hate, going there. If you work there, get a clue and learn where things are so you can tell me. Also, when I check out be friendly, but don't talk my head off. Just acknowledge me with a "hello and or how are you" but that's about it, unless I engage you of course and if I do go along with it. Oh yeah spit out your gum and stop talking to you friends while your ringing up my products.

I'm really a nice person, but Wal-Mart fires me up in a real bad way.
HAVE A NICE DAY AND THANK YOU FOR SHOPPING YOUR "un-friendly, unknowledgeable, unclean, unsafe, local Wal-Mart"

I'm with the majority...Walmart has better prices but Target looks nicer. I personally love Wallies World as i call it :) Just about every Wal-Mart here is a supercenter so it's all about the one stop shop! It's almost like going to Sam's Club minus the membership fee.

Walmart is the only store where I live so I guess Wal-Mart.
Unless I want to drive to owensboro Ky.
I don't really like most of Wal-Marts Clothes but everything else is good. Where I am from, Wal-Mart have very friendly people but service not really that good.
And my most complaint about the store is that when I finds something I really like they stop selling it, and they move stuff every stinking day. I can never go back to where I found something before... for most part.
I like the prices, the people, and if something doesn't work I can get my money back.

Target has better stuff and it's a better shopping experience.

Alas Walmart has lower prices and groceries so I am stuck shopping there most of the time.

Target's move upscale is stupid. If I want nice home furnishings, I can go to Bed Bath & Beyond or Crate & Barrel, etc. If I want cheap and inexpensive stuff, I can go to Wal-mart. Why anyone would want to buy mediocre over-priced Target merchandise is beyond me.

As for K-Mart, I have no clue why it's still even in business.
