its very expensive but i love doing it also, if you get with some friends and hold a kind of informal fight, like in the woods nearby, its one of the most fun things you can possible do.

If you haven't played, play one whole day with rental gear.
This sounds cliche but you either like it or you don't. If you do like it, it will absolutely be worth buying your own.
I played twice, one day of speed ball, one day of woods ball. I then went out and bought my own gear, from marker to mask to BDUs. I'm at the local field every week, and I'm a the local major park 2 twice a month.
and if you're going to be a hobby play you don't need one of the top of the line $1,400 markers. I have a Piranha (low end but reliable) it cost me $125.

oh yeah it is but you got to be willing to work and get more money or how ever you get money. I paintball and all the equipment I buy is more paintballs and co2. You gotta know where to get good prices on it too.
