But this question came from this sentence I read on the yahoo answers page describing the point system: "While you can't use points to buy or redeem anything, they do allow everyone to recognize how active and helpful you've been. (And they give you another excuse to brag to your friends"

not exactly brag..but I do admit to being addicted when I'm bored I answer..and I happily tell my mom and guy when I get a best answer. I think the whole points thing is to reel you in..even if its imaginary there another level to be reached,and it turns into a time-sucking reality escaping fun tool

Actually, my friend works at the same place I do and she told me about Y!Answers so I would brag to her (I think I have less points than her anyway) but I don't think any of my other friends would even know what I'm talking about. I only come up here at work.

I do wonder myself what the big deal about the points are. I definitely would not go bragging to my friends. I don't know why I insist on coming to this site all the time. Oh well.

I would not say that I am wasting anything, since I am at work and as long as no computers are down, I can do as i please on the net, in other words, I am paid to waste time on answers.

You can cheat points, check "imisidro" is one of the ten best answers an almost all the answers is same answer, also is publicity,
