Robin Utthapa played well on debut scoring 86. Should he be taken in the playing XI against South Africa & Sri Lanka next month?

I'm not talking about WC '07, i'm talking about the above mentioned series against Lankans & Africans.

No doubt he has the ability but we have better and more experienced players in. Sachin will be back and even today you can not question his ability. He hit 3 centuries in practice matches with Lashings XI.

We have Sehwag, let me tell you onething, whatever be his form, it was good against WI though, he is the only for India winning the coming world cup. He should be left alone as he can only do the irreparable damage to oppositon.

So no opening slots are vacant.

I'm back!!!
*The Indian team is looking on a long-term basis now! Greg Chappell has made his objectives clear- World cup 07. Players like Uthappa are definitely on his list.
Experience is a key factor in International cricket! Indian team management will be thinking to give these players more chances to prove themselves.

*I recently answered a question to pick the squad for WC ’07. I did try different combinations. It turned out that apart from few regulars in the current squad of ODI players, they just have one slot for a batsman vacant, that too at the expense of either VRV Singh or RP Singh. I won’t be surprised if India decides to leave the additional batsman, just to pick both of these bowlers & might adjust it with reserve wicket keeper. (Note: That was for a 16-member squad) Even if India decides to go with a batsman, we still have Jaffer as a strong contender after his brilliant performance in slow tracks of West Indies (Venue for WC ’07). So it’s Jaffer vs. Utthappa for a non-available slot!

*Robin Utthappa did make an impressive 86. He does have a decent technique & can attack if needed! But like I said, the next 10 months or so will see India try different combinations for WC ’07. Lot depends if he can fit into their strategies

EDIT: I KNOW U ARE TALKING ABOUT THE TRI-SERIES , BUT EVERY SINGLE MATCH IN THE NEXT 1 YEAR WILL BE SEEN AS A STAGE TO EXPERIMENT FOR THE BIGGEST CRICKET FIESTA- WC!! SAME IS THE CASE WITH YOUR TRI-SERIES. NOW READ MY ANSWER- DOES IT MAKE SENSE NOW???

No he should not come into the side at this time.
If he comes , he will take time to settle down but there is not much time for world cup. He can come after the worldcup'07.
Keeping this in view, he should be taken after the world cup'07
