One way to solve the Iranian Nuke situation (it has been suggested, by "the Atlantic".) is to handle the situation similarily to the way we dealt with the "Cold War" situation with the soviets. Do you think this aproach would work? Why or why not?

I think what Iran is trying to do is to further isolate itself from the West and from the nuclear-ready nations that surround it. I don't think the Iranians are bad people at all, and their president, while he may be something of a religious fanatic, is not stupid, and he generally has the interests of his people at heart. Israel has nukes, Pakistan has them, India has them. If I were Iran I'd be pretty nervous too. I don't doubt that they intend to produce weapons, but I think you hit the nail on the head when you mentioned the Cold War. I think there will be a lot of posturing and apprehension, but I somehow doubt Iran would ever be silly enough to nuke Israel. They'd nuke them right back! And since the west is the leading investor in their oil, if Iran really wanted to stick a thorn in our side, they would simply refuse to export oil to us, or to allow any foreign oil to leave through the ports they control. That would be completely in their right, it being their oil, and would illicit a far less violent response from the world than turning Israel into a crater. At least that's what I think.

Iran should be dealt with by the United Nations and the United Nations only. If the UN wants to continue to have a place in our world this is the time they have to step up and show that they can make a country comply with the standards that the world expects. If all six UN countries band together and EQUALLY do their part then Iran will listen. Using food as a weapon usually is not a good idea but when you have a country that is insistent on progressing there nuclear program and they have been offered other alternatives to there so called peaceful nuclear programs, and they do not accept then we have to look at alternatives. If society starts to become miserable the pressure is put on the leaders to relieve the stress.

I don't know why they're doing overthere or why they really want nuclear power. But trying to boss them around isn't gonna help resolve the problem. The only reason they are our "enemies" now is because we called them the axis of exil and now are trying to boss them around. Before we called them that, they were pretty darn close to being our friends again. They even offered to discuss this whole nuclear deal before the axis of evil thing. But we, being the arrogant people we are told them "no, we don't care what you have to say we'll get to you when we want you evil country you." And then it began. I say take the friendly approach and let them have nuclear power, and even a nuclear missile or two if they really are trying to make them. Because to be honest, Israel being the only power in the Middle East with nuclear arms isn't really fair and balanced. Also, there isn't a country in the world that will launch nuclear missiles unless they were attacked first and had no other option. And everyone thinks that Iran is nothing but terrorists walking around on the streets and being chum-chum with parliament and PM. It isn't like that, and Iran isn't going to give a nuclear bomb to some terrorist.

One intersting thing to think about is why we're picking on Iran so much when they don't even have nuclear bombs yet, or long range missiles? Could it be because Israel feels threatened and we're spending our money to be their body guard?

Sorry for the politics I brought into the answer, but it's the way I see it.

Let's nuke 'em back to the Stone Age and let God sort 'em out. Didn't George W. Bush say that during one of his campaign speeches somewhere? Certainly sounds like a Bushism.
