Benn there and Same/same...probably shows several things...
-you are/were obviously a Caring person
-you must have stayed Focused on your work accutely Listening for assistance Calls
-if you believe it might be a "sign" that relates back to the first ABOVE (i believe) you might pursue higher education in the medical services field though, before or while you go back- AS the Nursing assistant is unfortunately not a very Lucrative position.-I'D GO BACK IN AN INSTANT IF THE JOB WOULD PAY MY BILLS.
consider it all, go and visit and remind yourself of the UPS & downs...i commend you on assisting those you have and Sure they remember you (wherever they are.

It is probably your long term memory trying to organize your thoughts and your past. Your brain is like a computer, it is just moving files around, and defragmenting the disk so you can access those files with ease at a later time. Sometimes those files get put on top of the desk until they are refiled in a better place and you just happen to look at it. In a sense, yes, your mind is prioritizing. Maybe the elderly are calling you. Maybe they need your service. You have something special that not many people have and not many people can do.

I know it sounds weird, but I believe the Universe is always sending us "signals" about which way the "flow" is going around us. The trick of course is 1) not to miss the signals because we're too tied up in our own ego and desires, and 2) interpreting them correctly when they often are so confuzzling and ambiguous.
You are the one who knows why you STOPPED working in nursing. Maybe the "flashbacks" are telling you you stayed in it TOO LONG, rather than too short. You are the only one who can answer this. Did it "feel right"? Do you need to "move one" perhaps to being an LPN, and RN, a PA, a paramedic?
Without knowing more about your experience, it's really hard to advise on this. Flashbacks can even be a symptom of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder! Think it through. If you want to contact me, you have my email address.

i actually have had something similar. whenever i get very used to a place and leave (such as leaving school in summer or getting a new house) i suddenly begin hearing noises that are from the place i left when nothing around seems to be producing them.
however i do want 2 tell u that if u thought that these had something to do with signs ect. u must obviously think on some level that you should go back 2 working there so maybe u should go back.

I'll be walking down the street and My hip starts to vibrate. I look for my blackberry and its not there. It a conditioning. However if you think its a sign and you enjoyed the work then maybe it is a sign from your subconscious. The mind can do a lot of things

two points, one, and I hope this is not the case, but watch the nicholas cage, john goodman movie, bringing out the dead, then two, and this is more likely the case, when you work long hours, stressful hours especially with the same noises, sights, sounds or other stimuli, they become somehow ingrained in your subconciousness, and will randomly re-occur for no particular reason. who know, it may even be some combination of the two. either way good luck with that.

More likely its a significant memory. People that have experienced significant stress can suffer from post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) which can cause sleep problems like you have described. Some wake in a cold sweat or have bad dreams.
