I use all of the following Free software with Windows XP SP2 and Internet Explorer with MSN toolbar and the pop-up blocker turned on and have never had a single problem with my computer sense Microsoft came out with SP2. (knock on wood.) (And be sure to keep Windows Updated)
First Uninstall stop zilla and pop up stopper.

The best Anti-virus is: AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition. (www.grisoft.com)
The Best Spyware defense is: SpyBot Search and Destroy (www.spybot.info)
AND: AdAware SE (www.lavasoft.com)
AND Spyware Blaster (http://www.javacoolsoftware.info/kb/)
The best Firewall besides the one that comes with Windows is: Zone Alarm (http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/co... or just (www.zonelabs.com) and select the FREE version.

These are all FREE and are all that are required. There is no reason to pay for this kind of software, except to give a donation to the writers if you can.
ALL the above programs are recommended and should be run on a regular basis. With some the free versions they must be run manually.

The best way to avoid getting any Malware (virus, Trojan's, spyware, etc) is to practice safe computing. Microsoft and many others have countless articles on the subject of safe computing. (something I think should be taught in schools)

Well If your looking for security then having the best free software is a must. All in one softwares(av+aspy+ad) doesn't do the best job.my suggestion: 1) antivirus - Avast Home edition(free) includes malware protection too. In my view one of the best free antivirus avilable. 2) anti-spyware - Super anti-spyware(free). requires manual update. these two are enough and will not eat much of your ram if you have a decent system.even if it eats, which would surprise me, atleast it'll save you from messing your laptop. Have a nice day.

If there was a way to sign into Road Runner like I can you could download their free firewall, antispam, antivirus and pest protector. It lasts for a year, but I'm not sure if you can renew every year (mine will expire in about 2 months).

The address for my Road Runner home page is below. Try to sign up for web mail first - you have to have a web mail address to sign up for the free stuff.

Hopefully you can get it.

I use, and love, the free Ad-Aware for spyware and adware. It doesn't have a pop-up killer but you can find one of those by searching for "Free pop-up killer" on Google or some other search engine.

My pop-up killer came with my new computer.

download the free webroot spy sweeper edition... it doesn't let you remove spyware, but its second best @ detecting, and you can use the "shields" which are brilliant.
