How many people use the 3d animation program blender3d and is it any better than maya or gmax?

I installed Blender recently, I found the interface to be interesting and different. Maya and Blender cannot be compared on the same scale for obvious reasons. But I think in due time, provided that there is support from the opensource community, Blender will be just as good as any other off-the-shelf 3D applications.

Good to know that there are other people who have atleast tried out the application.
