Check the connection from the moitor at the back of the computer. Check the connector to make sure none of the pins are bent(pins can be missing, it doesn't use all 15) and make sure the connection is tight.

Otherwise the monitor may be starting to go bad, and needs to be replaced.

Check to make sure everything is completely plugged in.
If it all checks out, then while you're booting up, repeatedly press the F8 key. Enter Diagnostics mode, and choose the advanced mode (the mode that takes longest sadly). From there you should be able to run various tests to make sure your monitor is working correctly, and if it isn't it will offer suggestions as to what to do. Also remember, that if your monitor is infact going bad, then if you ever hear it cracking, popping or making any other odd noises, turn it off right away. Monitors have been known to explode.

Sounds like you need to update your display adapter. If that doesn't work you could try uninstalling it and reinstalling it.
