we are not advanced, we are as backward as we can be - war is itself a backwardness - arriving at the doorstep of self-extinction is backwardness - we are the most primitive, the most backward, the most stupid, the most selfdestructive,

everything in history screams that injustice is fatal - we have maximal injustice - pay from $1 to $1 billion a fortnight - maximal theft - maximal stealing - minimal maturity - minimal awareness - minimal consciousness of the injury we are inflicting on ourselves - the only way we can be happy is by kidding ourselves, hiding from the truth

so the injustice led to war and war led to the constant search for better weapons - as both sides, the bandits and the robbed, fight it out endlessly

as soon as we had specialisation in jobs, we had to have a pooling of the products of work so everyone can buy the mix they want - as soon as we had the pooling of wealth, we had people grabbing more than they put in - leading to everyone grabbing from everyone endlessly, acceleratingly, to the present doorstep of selfannihilation - this is not good, this is not sanity, this is not advancement, this is not honourable, decent or fine - it is maximal stupidity - we are selfdestructive - we steal, and then fight endlessly - we take out all we can get, not take out as much as we put in by our work, so there is too little for most - 99% are underpaid, are paid less than the world average - 90% are paid less than 10% of the average pay - the most vigorous grabbers have grabbed almost everything and we are too stupid even to support the founding fathers's move to limit fortunes so that no one can take out more than they put in - 1% get 90% of world income - they certainly dont do 90% of the work, probably less than 1%, since the rich dont have to work

injustice is theft, theft makes angry, angry makes war, war makes nuclear winter, end of humanity

limit fortunes, cut the superpowerful down to a human size, or go on dying in the wars they make to get richer, and go on heading to self extinction

justice is indispensable to survival and happiness - get survival and happiness - get justice - limit fortunes - return to the american dream of a land of the free under limited fortunes for limited contribution

bill gates works a fortnight and we give him up to US$15 million worth of goods and services - how crazy is that? - how smart and aware are our economists, when they say there is no free lunch? - how much does gates have to get per fortnight before it becomes a free lunch?

and we dont do this because we have heaps of money and we feel like doing it, no 50 million have to starve to death so he can be paid this

there is US$75,000 per family working average hard in the world - that would be an awful lot more peaceful and pleasant - but can we do it? can we commit justice to save ourselves? - no - what do you call someone who cant stop destroying themselves?

we know injustice causes violence, war and crime - everyone will agree that if a govt committed the injustice of taking 90% of income off 90% of people it would cause enormous violence, war and crime - we know this violence is escalative as both sides throw bigger and bigger rocks trying to prevail - we know we have grown war for 1000s of years, from sticks and stones to cannon to world wars to nuclear oblivion - we know that the rich get richer and the poor get poorer - we know this means that the rich do less and less work per dollar got - so we know it is unjust - so we know everything - we know injustice [theft of earnings] causes war and crime, we know it grows, we know we are teetering on self-extinction

so what are we?

will we suddenly wake up and get advanced, get sane, get decent, get selfsaving, face the necessity of limiting fortunes to justice - or will we go on stealing, grabbing all we can, whether we or others earned it, warring, hating, torturing, bombing, shooting till we are all vaporised atomically or frozen in nuclear winter?

I disagree.

War is 'A' reason, not 'THE' reason.

Of the important technological advances of the last 100 years or so, I would think the following would all rate highly:

Internal Combustion Engine
Computers
Internet
Electricity
Transistors
Camera
Aeroplanes
Telephone
Automobile
Television

All of the above technologies have had a profound impact on a huge percentage of the worlds population. Yet none of these was a direct outcome of war. Warfare certainly has pushed along refinement of some of these technologies, but I believe they all existed before they were used in war.

I could be wrong, and there could be a list of technologies borne of war that outweighs the ones above, but there are other reasons for technological advances.

War has made us more technological advanced that some countries that will remain nameless and less aware of our abilities than other nations.

Disease has made man strive more for answers to the question of why and also given us great technological advances that have improved not just our lives but those around us in other nations and countries throughout the world.

Hunger, Pain, Sorrow, Boredom and Curiosity have all contributed their share to our advances both good and bad and not so great.

We are a country that is beseeched with our selves. We are never content. We are restless spirits and will continue to advance our technological skills and advances as a way to sooth the savage beasts that lay within all of us.

Neccessity is the mother of all creation. War is an extremely stressful period with a lot of neccessity, which causes many technological advances. Ways to produce a lot of food and clothing more quickly, as well as refining steel, creating engines of war better able to destroy the enemy all came about because of neccessity to win battles. However, many other crisis situations can have the same if not better results - better because the technology is driven for survival more than for destruction.

it's one reason-all advance is due to motivation and hate is a good motivator, as is fear and love and also curiousity and creativity-on the whole,it's been curiousity-seeking knowledge-wanting to explore space, oceans, new lands that has prompted more innovation-most modern technology is related to NASA rexearcg not the dept. of defense. can cite examples, like velcro, teflon, computer advances-of course, some say this was reverse engineering from alien spacecraft but who knows-if so, the aliens should have had better patent protection!

I think there is a lot of truth to that, but I certainly don't want to make a case for justifying war.

a sad, but possibly valid observation my friend.
you'd think we'd have come further than that as long as humans have been on the planet, but you just might have a point. sadly

I would say not all but many because "Necessity is the Mother of Invention".
