Because they are the Detroit Tigers. Sort of like noone expects the Cubs to win anything. Personally I think it would be great to see a team like the Tigers keep on winning. Better them than the Yankee's or other super rich team.

Because they're the Tiger... it's like asking why wont the Devil Rays win the WS? The way I look at it is the Tigers and the Rays are the Single A teams in the AL. They might have a good run but basically they have a bunch of no ones. Honestly. If you're not from the Tampa Bay area, can you name 5 players? Same goes with the Tigers. Before this year could you name their starting line up? Who knows, maybe they'll shock us all and go to the ALCS only to be stopped by the Mariners or the Red Sox... but I don't see them going on to the WS. Lo siento!

Whoa freddyg.....do you even know baseball? You should be picking up a newspaper once in a while and try actually reading it.
Single A team????
Maybe 3 years ago I would have agreed with you...but this is actually 2006.
Carlos Guillen
Pudge Rodiguez
Maggilo Ordenez
Kenny Rodgers
Justin Verlander
Joel Zumaya
are all house hold names by now...
And No I dont really expect them to keep pace....but if they play .500 ball the rest of the year that would be good for 97 wins!
And I fully expect them to at least do that.
Maybe more.
And Jim Leyland isnt a household name?
Hello???? he won the World Series as the manager of the 1997 FFlordia Marlins (whom David Dombrowski was the GM at that time, and is now the GM of The Tigers).
Did I expect them to win the World Series? No I really dont....but I do think they have the talent and the skills to make it to the playoffs.
You are entitled to your opinion....but I got to tell you, it's wrong.

I don't see the Tigers as being built for the long haul. Yes they have all the tools to make a push, but I still think they need one more piece like a left handed power hitter, to put them over the hump and get them into the playoffs. The pitching is there and they have plenty of veteran leadership, but if they add one more bat by the trade deadline, they should be in great shape.

1. They're the Tigers, 2. They have t he White Sox creeping up right behing them, 3. They have a lot of young players who may not be able to keep up their stats in the second half of the season.

I don't think everyone does at all. I think just because they are young, maybe they think they'll tire or choke but they look solid to make the playoffs to me. Those guys who were around in the 100-loss seasons are going to be highly motivated to finish the job in '06.
Actually, I'm off to Seattle tomorrow to catch them live. They've looked really good the past two games vs. the M's.

It would be hard for ANY team to keep up with that pace. It's only natural that they're going to have some stumbles along the way.

I don't know if they will or not. But I just gotta say remember the 2003 KC Royals. They lead the division for a while and they choked at the end. It just seems that "cinderella" teams don't even make it to the postseason.

Because too many players are playing way over their heads. They can't continue at this pace. Reality sets in.
