I have a laptop that has built in wireless and I have a wireless router. No problem there.

I have another computer that I bought a USB adapter for, so I could connect that to the internet. I hooked it up and it connected, but it would disconnect and re connect, over and over.

I thought the USB adapter was bad, so I bought another one, but this time I got a PCI adapter, I hooked it up and it does the same thing, connects and disconnects over and over.

Does anyone know what could be wrong. It's connecting on G but even If I use B, it does the same thing.

I don't think it can be the router, since I connect with the laptop and have no problem.

Is it possible that my other computer (desktop) just doesn't want to connect wirelessly.

I use windows xp service pack 2, distance from the router is only about 20 feet, through 1 wall. I just don't don't understand what could be wrong.

Although the adapter likely was found an installed automatically by Windows XP, it is ossible that there is a newer or more updated version of the drivers for your wireless card available on the maufacturers website. Check this out to make sure that you have the latest driver versions (this can be checked through Device Manager, located by going into the system properties windows from Control Panel).

If the drivers are up to date, you will want to verify that your computer itself has a completely up-to-date BIOS on it, as an older BIOS could cause hardware conflicts that could cause frequent, random, disconnects.

Another choice would be to see if the adapter has a software included with it for managing your wireless connection. Although WinXP has a built in wireless management software, you may want to try one that is included. At times, some of Microsoft's included software can decide it doesn't want to play well with others.

Just a few thoughts.

If you do not have a secure connection there may be neighbors using your connection and overloading the router. Secure your router by following the instructions that came on the cd with your router. Message me if you need help. You also could have gotten 2 bad devices. I've had that happen to me several times with equipment. Try the to secure your router first if it isn't already. Good luck and hit me up if you have any questions.

This is a known problem with Wireless Zero Configuration (WZC) when you use a USB wireless adapter. See
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/910387/en-us

To fix the problem you have to replace the USB wireless adapter with a PC Card (PCMCIA) adapter that has its own utility and will not use Windows XP wireless zero configuration

You may want to check to see if it occurs when you talk on the phone. Wireless B & G operate on at 2.4GHz, and so do many new cordless phones. This can cause interference since they operate at the same frequency.

Microwaves can also cause interference.
