I would have your daughter talk to her ob/gyn about it and see what he or she says.
I've only heard about it harming unborn children when the pregnant woman is the one getting her hair dyed or bleached. I haven't heard anything about when she's the one dying or bleaching someones hair. I would be extra careful, though. Who knows how many chemicals if any are getting through the placenta to your grandchild?

Though the pregnant belly is the most obvious physical effect a gestating fetus has on it's mother, it's by no means the only one. The changes are evident everywhere - from the palms of the hands (which may temporarily turn a ruddy red) to the inside of the mouth (gums may swell and bleed). The hair is no exception.
Though some extra-prudent practitioners still advise their patients to stay away from hair dyes when they're expecting, studies have not lnked these products to birth defects. Apparently, so little of the chemicals in the dyes is absorbed through the skin, it's not likely that it would leave any adverse effect.
But, while you may not have to worry about the impact on your baby if you continue colouring your hair, you may have to worry about the impact on your appearance. For hormonal reasons, your hair may react differently when you're expecting - leaving you with a colour you may not have expected.

any fumes she breathes in at all go directly into the baby's still unformed lungs
I do not suggest this at all
these fumes are not only breathable but it puts chemicals in your bloodstream affecting you daughter's brain in a minor way, and also affecting the fetus as well
she shouldn't be doing this
those places aren't very ventilated at all and I doubt the school will go completely out of their way to make sure there is a breeze aimed at her face at all times
those fumes from the products are unbelievably strong
I would not do it. Definitely not. Why risk the baby's health?

I was told when I was pregnant both times that you are not supposed to be around that stuff because of the harmful chemicals. It could harm the baby. I would advise your daughter to talk to her teacher and see if she could stop classes right now and continue where she left off once the baby is born.

anything in moderation ....
i worked in a print shop when i was pregnant with my daughter 7+ years ago .. those are HARSH fumes ... and she was the most healthy .. tho a touch under weight child born the night on the ward ... 5 lbs 15 oz ... and trying to crawl out of her basket ... she could pretty much hold her head up too ...
just keep your daughter healthy ... make sure she gets that ventilation .. and .. plenty of exercise away from the hair studio ... eat right .. take the vitamins ... and .. wait for that healthy baby to arrive ... :D

I have two children and I had my hair colored in a salon during both pregnancies and I was also told by my Dr's that it was perfectly safe. I was nauseated by the fumes during one appointment but I just walked outside. I think if she is in a well ventalated room like she was advised by her Dr, then things will be fine! My children are both fine by the way!

Smelling the chemicals is liable to make her sick, but putting them in her own hair is unsafe. As long as it doesn't get into her blood stream, it's ok.
