The money we send oversees would not make a big difference if it was spent here fighting poverty. We seem to have forgotten that we had a war on poverty in the US during the 60’s and 70’s. Remember LBJ was going to fix it by socializing the economy?

The result was that poverty flourished. Women were having babies out of wed lock just to increase their welfare payments. Able bodied men and women are still living pathetic lives just getting by on SSI at the expense of the Social Security Trust Fund. There is a built in 4% unemployment rate in the US because some people would rather sit back and collect unemployment rather than accept a “lesser” job.

You are mistaken if you think that you can end poverty by throwing money at it especially if it’s government money that you are throwing.

I am afraid that you did not have any opportunity to go out of this country. If you had perhaps it would have helped you to gain a proper perspective of the position. No doubt we have our own poor but was there a single starvation death here. It is almost a daily occurence outside viz. Somalia.I feel you must congratulate yourself that the persons at the helm in this country have a genuine appreciation of this and they are trying to do their mite, mark well mite, for the wants outside are unfathomable pits and our contributions can at best touches the upper fringes of it. Please try to go through at least some of the literature available about world poverty and you will be cured of such uncharitable thoughts.

It isn't that way, and it doesn't seem that way. The better question is why people like you seem to think that the US is more worried about starvation in other countries than we are about social problems in the US. Just because the US is engaged (pathetically so, but at least a bit) in international aid doesn't mean the nation is not at least partially dealing with problems here at home.

Too who much is given, much is expected. Even though we have poor in our own country, mountianous rural areas, inner city areas, even sometimes the family down the street who lost their means of earning a living, we are still richer than the third world countries. This doesn't negate the fact that we should take care of our own first...as other countries of the world do. Not too many countries stepping forward to help with OUR poor, now are there?

Because they have more control inside than outside.
If there's starvation in your hometown, instead of just sending money, you'll be able help them.
But when it happens from outside, you can only send money.
To stop poverty, where ever it's from, you need to have heart and courage and not afraid to change your life style.

Because those out there in other countries suffering from poverty is our brothers and sisters who is living human kind like you and me in faraway land.
Is not people of different races on planet earth.
Since the western is the older brother they have to look after the asian younger brother.
With miscommunication and communication failures both ended up with mistrust and in throwing of pots and pans in bashing one another on planet earth.

Well, they look more hungry than our people in the States. These people got flies and diseases like in Africa, and you can see their rib cage. Starving is starving though. I don't know why. I think because it's a tax deduction. Everybody wants something for nothing. Like soldiers helping out in Iraq, there's something in return for us I don't know what. Probably oil and money.

It would be interesting to see other countries send aid to the US to help the poverty striken here.

Because we are trying to please everyone else except our own people. They have to accept what the gov't does. They live here and the media is always reporting from overseas.
