First off the easiest way to do this is to aquire a cross-over cable and hook it between the two computers ethernet ports. As long as you have them both setup to automatically obtain an IP it will be about a minute before the computer generate's private IP addresses. It will look like 169.254.xxx.xxx. Or you can go the fast route and specify an IP. I like to use the 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.1.2. This will give you an instant connection.

On your friends computer create a folder on his/her desktop and enable file sharing on that folder. Than on your PC go to my computer and type \\192.168.1.2 in the address bar. this will bring up that folder. You cannot drag and drop anything into this folder unless they have given users access to change files.

As far as the subject of using computer 2's burner, just have them share the cd drive, and you can right click it and map it as a network drive.

Sorry for the long post, but if you leave on small step out, it doenst work.

To connect two computers directly you would need to use a cross-over cable for file sharing. Or else install a router, hub or switch and connect both to the router. If you would like help from paid tech support check out yto.ca :)
