Hmmmmmmmmmmm seems like we have a lot of opinions here as usual with guitar questions. But have no fear! The GUIT-tahman is HERE!
Always store your guitar in a case that is closed up. The only other viable option is to get wall hangars that are SECURED to the wall via screws in a wall STUD, not wallBOARD, and hang them up. This of course leaves them open to bumps and scratches. So the safest place is a hard case. A "gig" bag is a "gig" bag because you use it to go to the "gig", folks, where you may sacrifice protection for portability and lightness. A gig bag is not going to save your guitar if it falls over.
Therefore, any guitar IN a hard shell case may be leaned against a wall that is remote and safe from moving animals, kids, idiots, and the overly curious. Mine sit in hard cases against the wall and isolated from traffic.
Now let's talk common sense ok? NEVER lean a guitar against ANYTHING if it is NOT IN A HARD CASE! :D Ok? Got it? TY! I have seen four (FOUR) guitars owned by students fall over when leaned on something like an amp. You are asking for it if you do this. The neck SNAPS in two ok? ALL four had snapped necks. I stop everything to correct my students if they do this. It's an accident eagerly waiting to happen. And the repair costs may be more than the guitar's worth.
PS DO loosen strings on a guitar that is not in use. Metal strings will just get tighter and tighter and warp the neck or pull the bridge off.

It's best to keep guitars in their hard cases. Leaning it against the wall will warp the neck. You might also try a guitar stand that wouldn't put pressure on the neck.

KEEP it in a hard case with the strings on . Remove the strings and the neck can/will warp.. The strings keep pressure on the neck and keep the neck rigid . .

How long is it out of use for? It may help to remove the strings. Too much pressure on the neck is bad, yes.
