Redwork is quite popular these days. As the previous respondant mentioned Aunt Martha's iron on are great. There are also several good books on the market that are strictly redwork. If you want to personalize the quilt to your own interests find a picture that you like. Trace the basic outline, then use transfer paper (or carbon paper) to trace onto your fabric. Open you mind and be creative - you will find patterns and inspiration for patterns all around you.
