Well over $15000 for a decent stone without flaws. If they try selling it to you for less than that be careful...there's something wrong with the stone.

BTW, are you sure on the 4.5 cw? Or is that the total weight between several stones? A decent 2 carat diamond is almost $4500-5000 and would be considered very large for an engagement ring. 4.5 carats for a single stone would be in the $10,000-20,000 range.. Is it possible that there are 2-3 stones in the setting (or more) and that you're buy several smaller stones? If so, that would make more sense and you'll get a much more reasonable price.

Here's a great website where you'll get both good information and an idea of what things cost.

first of all, platinum is the most precious of all the metals, and it is white.
it depends on the grading of the cut, if its symmetrical or not, the color of the diamond, ( more yellow or white) and the clarity, ( how many flaws) all natural diamonds have flaws!! are the visible to the naked eye? I suggest take it to a jeweler and have it appraised. most will give you a verbal appraisal, but a written one will cost you some money and the ring might have to be sent off.
good luck.
