Can you go to the tattoo artist with a design you made yourself and ask them to put it on your body for you? Or does it have to be something you pick out from their samples in the store?

Absolutely!! I have 6 tats and all but 1 if them were drawn for me by a friend of mine...the tattoo artist just makes a carbon copy of it and transfers it onto your skin as a guide.

In my extremely biased, arrogant opinion, the pain of a given area should be tertiary at best to the decision of getting a tattoo. I say this after finding out *precisely* how much a tattoo on the spine feels, and yet would do it again in a heartbeat for the above mentioned reason. A good tattoo in a location you don't like becomes a bad tattoo. There really isn't any way you can tell what the pain will be like and how you will react until you do it, although if you've ever scratched a sunburn you do have an inkling. I do tend to think you should wait as well, if only for the fact that you're still growing. Two years isn't that long & will give you a good time to really firm up what you want. Note that I am hardly anti-ink, and there are some folks under 18 who are clueful enough to get something they will always enjoy. However, I would recommend thinking about this for more than a few days. Even a month or two may allow you to lock down more precisely what & where you want, and turn a so-so decision into a really good one. Good art takes time, but is oh so worth it...

Yes, most tattoo artist do custom jobs. The best way to find a good artist is by word of mouth. If you can find a good artist you can express what you want and he or she can come up with a unique idea just for you.

Any good tattoo place and artist should be able to design something for you. If they can't, go somewhere else. There is always someone willing to do it, you just gotta find them. There should be alot of research put into getting a tattoo, not just a spur of the moment idea. Remember this is PERMANENT and very painful to get removed/fixed.

Yes, you can have them do a customized tattoo for you. Be sure to pick a reputable parlour (know some of their customers) and make sure they have sanitary conditions before you have them touch you with a needle! .... I know most tattoo parlours are safe, and sanitary, but it doesn't hurt to point that out to someone who doesn't know a lot about tattoos. Remember tats last a lifetime........

It depends on the tattoo place. Some tattoo shops will let you and others you have to pick something out of the book. You would have to call around and ask.

You can use any design you want. All that may happen is they suggest a change here and there so it will come out looking better. Not every design translates well to various parts of the body. Sometimes it may need to be made bigger or altered in some way.

Yes most if not all tattoo parlors encourage people to bring
personal designs for them to tattoo.

It depends on the artist. The two places I've had tattoos done would have done that. They wold just trace the design on carbon like paper, or if they were good at drawing do it free hand.

Yes. You should talk to a few first though. Some like to drive the price up while some aren't very professional. Look at their portfolios in the studio. You can see how creative they are by the tats they showcase.
