same reason people wear designer clothes, nice jewelry, etc.
really nice rims are eye catching and set the car apart from others that are the same make/model on the road

you really want to know, read this. Rims not onl ymake yopur car looks good. Rims actually are really important because their the one holding the tire which holds the road. Expansive rims are lighter which improves gas mpg, Handling and braking distance. Most of the inexpansive car has something call mag rims. MAg rims are the one with the plastic cover outside and if u remove the plastic, it's usually all black with a lot of really small holes in it. Mag are really heavy. The on u see on the performance car or the aftermarket one, they are call alloy rims (wheel). I changed my corolla to alloy rims and notice A LOT of differents. Rims also has a lot of pattern and size but i'm gona go into that. If you wanna know more sent me a message.

The rims hold the tires, which hold up the car. If you are referring to fancy rims; most of the time it's to dress up your ride, other times it's just a status thing. People think the better their ride looks, the more money people will think they put into it. The one sure thing that it will accomplish is that you will buy them, put them on, and sooner or later you won't have ANY wheels at all because some scum bag will steal them.

Take them off and you will see that you can not go anywhere nearly as fast with out any rims!
