What I mean is, I've tried to read The Power of Now and while a friend of mine says that Eckhart spoon feeds you the truth, I didn't find it all that easy to understand. I'm sure the message is important and the concept can change your life, but I'm finding it hard to grasp. Anyone know of any other books or authors who explain enlightenment in laymens' terms?

In short Tolle is saying that what happens in the past doesn't matter and we don't know the future. The only thing that does matter is this very moment. This doesn't mean that you shouldn't try to understand the people and events that formed your feelings and way of life and it doesn't mean that you don't need to worry about being late, paying the bills or saving for your retirement. Simply put, the point is that you need to live, enjoy, experience your life every moment and not let the events of the past influence your current attitude or behavior. Likewise you can't be waiting for this or that to happen, because you don't know what will happen. It's a little more complex than this but that's the basics. Your friend probably said that he spoon feeds you, because he offers up a lot of complex ideas and statement of "truth" without any empirical evidence. He uses a lot of common sense ideas but doesn't show how they are correct or how they have actually led to an improved life, which in my opinion is essential for any modern philosopher or spiritualist if the ideas are going to survive past the next McDonald's commercial.

i've got study "the ability of Now" and his message in it fairly is to stay interior the present 2d, that that's fairly useful because of the fact while we spend all of our time paying interest to our concepts of what ought to we make for dinner, oh, i don't opt to circulate to artwork day after today, I ought to have informed that guy blah blah blah, we're not experiencing our lives. we are focusing on cases that don't exist. The previous does not exist, this is long gone. the destiny does not exist, this is not a assure; you will be able to desire to slide interior the bathtub, hit your head, and die. I merely had a factor with my blood tension dropping to seventy seven/40 yet felt no outcomes. If I hadn't pulled a muscle in my chest, i does not have seen the healthcare expert and it does not have been detected, and it would desire to have saved dropping and that i might have died. there is not any day after today, there is in user-friendly terms the 2d which you're in actual now, it fairly is your existence, it fairly is once you ought to be residing. yet, considering he bought his soul to Oprah, I stop analyzing his stuff.
