Do you like the seatbelt laws? Do you think the big insurance companies did some lobbying to get this law passed? Seems to me like they are the only ones to benefit (financially) by this law. I know we are slowly giving up all of our freedoms and rights in this country, but I hate this law the most of all. It gives people a sense of false security, it probably has caused many wrecks by people trying to fasten it while driving. What about a side impact accident? wouldn't it be better to be pushed away from the car slamming into you than be held in place where you can't move? This is a stupid law. Do you agree?

I know the insurance institute for highway safety has done ALOT to get safety measures passed.

I do not agree with the government telling me how to do anything regarding my safety. I am a grown adult and can think for myself.

I think the seatbelt and motorcycle helmets are very good ways to help save your life. I would not drive without seatbelts in a car or drive a bike without my helmet.

Should it be a law? NO!!

Is it smart to use it? YES!

Insurance companies spend a lot of time and money lobbying for seat belt and helmet laws.
It is an infringement on our rights and some people have been trapped and injured and have died from being restrained by seat belts.
But so many more lives have been saved by using them.
It's an infringement I think we can LIVE with.

I do agree.... there are too many cases where the seatbelts cause death. Personally, I have been in a wreck where if I had had my seatbelt on I would have been seriously injured instead of only mildly. Family members too for that matter.

You know why Mississippi just got the law?

The state was given $34 Million in federal funding for passing the law.

No, it was private safety groups, they did that and also that 55 mph on interstate ( which proved to be false safety)

But the stats show how many saved for wearing, it but also shows how many died because they wore them. More are saved, but some are killed because of them.
