The oil is still good just make sure that if you have a newer car that it meets the API specs. The new spec is GF-4. If the oil is not GF-4 and you have a 2005 or newer car dont use it. If your car is older than 2005 go ahead. As far as the maxlife yes it does work. Valvoline was the pioneer to high mileage oils. Since then all the oil companies have made it. But remember it is meant to recondition the valve seals and what not. It is not meant nor will it work on oil leaks.

Lets see...That would be a... yes.

Of course it 'has' been " in your car for more than 3000 miles....(not in engine) oh yeah, seal and all.

Lets see....Yeah still good.

As far as Synthetic oils go. You are wasting your money to switch. If it doesn't call for synthetic, Use your regular brand of motor oil as recommended by your Manufacturer.
If you have a high mileage engine you might go with a 10-40 but that will decrease your gas mileage a bit while cutting back on oil burning in your engine. Maybe run a bit quieter...

So: If you don't have to add oil between changes stick with your 5-30 or 10-30 whatever your manufacturer recommends.

Yes motor oil does "expire", after 30 days exposed to oxygen it starts to lose it's detergent quallities. It doesn't go bad, it's just not as good as it was. You allready have that gallon, use it for your next oil change then go find out (or bend over) how much synthetic oil costs.

yes usually in 2-5 thousand miles unless it is synthetic oil,,and it last at least 8000 miles,,but yes it does break down,,and it is not good for any engine to run it that long,,because oil takes away friction,,and also help,s carry some heat away,,when it get,s dirty it can,t function as well as if it were new,,do this for a living,,hope this help,s.,if it,s new oil,,you can probably keep it for year,s,,and still use it,,it should be OK.

Yes it's ok to use, motor oil doe's not have a shelf life, it's only no good after so many miles of use in your engine.

Heck yeah..... use it with no worries....., as for high mileage oils.... valvolines isn't thicker as the others are, and it just has retained the SL rated oils additive levels..... and contains extra seal conditioners. Doesn't really help unless your using oil. Stick with conventional, its been doing fine for you.
